5. DAMAGED ITEMS

If you receive an item that is damaged, there is a process to follow. Please email beyondthepagesas@gmail.com within 10 days of receipt of the item, make sure clear photos of the damaged item/s and the box, showing the shipping label are provided. It is extremely important to keep ALL packaging as damage claims require all the packaging to be intact and presented to the Post Office if needed.

Here are the guidelines for Damaged Books.

Examples of Damage Accepted

  • A tear/rip/cut or visible scratch on the front of the book/dust jacket or spine that affect the ability to display.

  • Residue or marks on the front or spine that cannot be removed

  • Indents or crushed edges that are clearly creased that affect the ability to read

  • More than one ripped or bent page that affects the text on the pages

  • Water Damage

  • Punctured

  • Spine split in half

  • Production defects (such as a missing finish)

Examples of Damage that is NOT accepted.

  • Light scratches, marks or residue on the back of the book, including foiling.

  • Over-foiling, silver additional foil

  • Slight mottling of foil

  • Minimal creasing on top or bottom of the book spine or corners.

  • Minimal Denting that can be smoothed

  • Spine Indents- due to the nature of the small printer used, there is a handmade process to the production, and variations in the glue thickness on the spine can occur. This does not affect the ability to read or the structural integrity of the book.

  • Spine Scoring- The printers use scoring guidelines when binding, on large spines these scoring creases may be visible and is not damage and does not affect the integrity of the book.

  • Wavy pages

  • Ripped or damaged blank pages

  • Minor dings that do not affect ability to read

  • Hardback jacket with minimal creasing

  • Sticky residue that can be removed

Please NOTE that it is hard to achieve a perfect foil, it is the first item in production and the books go through several machines during the process. Light scratching is normal and even a slight mottle to the foil effect. However missing sections of foil (black instead of foil)  is a misprint error. Over foiling (extra silver foil) can be lightly dusted off the cover, it is a part of the process. A similar effect can be seen with the glow in the dark print with excess glow layer seen, a light dust off and this removes any excess.

A small printer press is used, it is not a large commercial operation. Tolerances are higher than a commercial operation as there are handmade aspects to the production line, resulting in 'human' factors. While the utmost care and quality control processes are undertaken, small tolerances may be allowed through the process.

All paper/ swag items are included as *complimentary* items and will not be refunded or replaced.

All replacements are at the discretion of Beyond the Pages and subject to insurer requirements. Replacements are assessed on a case by case basis and are not a guarantee, alternative remedies may be offered at our discretion. In the event that you need to return any Product to us, we do NOT cover the cost of return postage or shipping BUT we will cover the cost of the replacement item.

You may be asked to destroy your damaged item before we can provide a replacement. Please do not dispose of your item before receiving confirmation we are able to replace it.

The replacements or damaged copies are not for resale purposes that would be deemed excessive or unfair. Should we find that our replacement policies are being abused by profiteering, we, in turn, would need to re-evaluate our replacement policies with this person. We reserve the right to refuse or cancel any replacements that we suspect or determine you are buying to resell.
